Department of Biology

Associate Director of the Jim Holland Summer Enrichment Program (SEP) and Lilly Scholars Program (LPS).
Primary point of contact to the Chair.
Coordinates faculty recruiting efforts, and faculty promotion and tenure.

Cares for the plants in the Jordan Hall Greenhouses, Botany Field and other satellite areas; work includes watering, fertilizing, weed and pest control, and other activities as specified by the individual researchers.

Advises graduate students on requirements for M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in each graduate program.
Oversees the processing and evaluation of all applications for admission.
Maintains records on the whereabouts/current position of former students.

Oversees all bi-weekly and monthly payroll processes.
First responder for medical emergencies; prepares injury reports.
Provides notary services.

Washes glassware used by the Drosophila Stock Center and teaching/research labs.
Prepares media for the Drosophila Stock Center and teaching/research labs.

Liaison with Physical Plant for maintenance and repair of all building systems.
Coordinates with outside contractors during construction phase of renovation projects.

Manages support services for department’s computer systems, network, and applications.
Assists with troubleshooting departmental computer problems.

Supervises the Jordan Hall and Botany Field greenhouses, and other satellite areas.

Cares for animals in Jordan Hall Animal Quarters and other satellite animal care facilities.
Follows care specified by individual researchers, includes- cleaning cages, changing bedding, feeding, administering medications, taking the AQ census, and observing and reporting animal sickness.

Directs and oversees all administrative services and financial operations for the Department of Biology.
Manages processing and auditing of grant proposals and awards.
Oversees Foundation accounts.

Coordinates the Science, Technology, and Research Scholars Program (STARS), which provides a select group of science majors an opportunity to conduct research while earning a bachelor's degree.

Coordinates the Integrated Freshman Learning Experience (IFLE), which provides high school graduates who plan to major in biology, biochemistry, or behavioral neuroscience an opportunity to participate in summer research before college.

Coordinates the Capstone program, which encourages the participation of undergraduates in Biology research labs.

Supervises the daily operations of the 4th floor Media and Glassware Facilities.
Prepares media used for teaching labs including stains, reagents and solutions.
Maintains computerized records of media orders, inventory levels, costs, etc.

Prepares the media for the Drosophila Stock Center and the teaching/research labs.
Maintains awareness of dispensing levels, cooling time and temperatures, and tracks inventory of food and product.

Primary contact for computing advice, support and troubleshooting.
Provides consultation and support for computer systems, networks, and applications.

Coordinates all efforts for the MBG and EEB REU programs.

Cleans and washes all glassware used by the Drosophila Stock Center and teaching/research labs.

Initiates purchase orders for department and grant accounts.
Tracks orders, handles returns, and authorizes payments.

Oversees graduate student recruitment.
Markets graduate programs.
Coordinates Graduate Recruitment Weekend.

Manages CTRD training grant.
Coordinates REU program in Animal Behavior.
Coordinates CISAB seminar series.

Initiates purchase orders for stock.
Maintains stockroom inventory database and handles monthly billings.

Prepares media used for teaching labs- including stains, reagents, and solutions.
Maintains computerized records of media orders, inventory levels, costs, etc.

Directs physical operations and maintenance of all buildings and associated facilities.
Plans and coordinates renovation projects.
Directs and oversees departmental support services.
Contact for requests for re-keying of rooms, installation of new phone/data jacks

Coordinates all human resource management activities for the department.
Manages IGERT and GCM graduate student training grants.
Initiates visa applications.

Processes customer service requests within the Departmental Office (ie: copying; FedEx; mail, vehicle, equipment, and room reservations, etc.).
Responder to first aid emergencies; prepares injury reports.

Coordinates special projects, including lecture series, symposia, scholarships/fellowships program updates.
