New teaching labs open

students working in a new teaching lab Three new teaching labs opened in January 2010. Outfitted with the latest technology and new equipment, the labs provide students with an improved learning experience. The renovation was initiated by the decline in library usage and the need to have modern, well-designed teaching labs. This is only the beginning of a series of upcoming renovations to Jordan Hall. Charles Bixler Heiser Jr.
1920 – 2010

Distinguished Professor Charles Heiser Jr. passed away on June 11, 2010. Heiser was internationally known for his work in plant evolution and ethnobotany. More »

Faculty honored

Three esteemed faculty members have been honored as fellows in various academies and societies. Yves Brun has been elected a fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology, Ellen Ketterson is the newest fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and Loren Rieseberg (pictured with Charles Heiser) has been elected to the Royal Society. Light Microscopy Imaging Center acquires new instruments
The IU Light Microscopy Imaging Center (LMIC) was awarded a high-end instrumentation grant to procure an Applied Precision OMX Super Resolution imaging system. Scheduled for installation in mid-July, the LMIC adds this system to its impressive array of microscopes to become the go-to facility for researchers requiring light microscopy, image processing, and image analysis. Four biology majors honored

Anderson and Kulow Four Department of Biology undergraduates received high honors recently. Erika Anderson and Jennifer Kulow (right) were named Barry M. Goldwater Scholars by the Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation. They bring the total number of departmental majors to receive this national award to thirteen. Rebeca Hernandez and Ellen Weinzapfel earned the Indiana University’s Provost’s Award for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity. More »

Carving her own path

With over twenty years' experience in the life science industry, alumnus Tracy Lawhon left her work with large pharmaceutical firms to join two seed-stage biotech companies in California.
