Marta Shocket studies disease ecology and evolution in Daphnia (freshwater zooplankton) as a part of Spencer Hall's lab. Her Crowell Scholarship will enable Marta to attend a three-week workshop on adaptive dynamics modeling at Michigan State University’s Kellogg Biological Station this June.

In May, Matthew Williams traveled to Greenland to participate in a research project involving the use of an electropositive alloy as a shark deterrent to keep Greenland sharks from being accidentally caught on halibut long-lines. Matthew also will spend eight weeks at the Virginia Institute of Marine Sciences’ Eastern Shore Laboratory where he will continue to research the effects of electropositive metals on sharks.
