Jia Mun Chan graduated in May with a B.S. in Microbiology and a Certificate in the Liberal Arts and Management Program. She conducted work on bacterial motility in Dan Kearns’ lab. Jia was a 2009-2010 Indiana University Founders Scholar, and was named to the Dean’s List in 2010. The government of Malaysia awarded her a Public Service Department Scholarship, and in 2011 she was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Honorary Society. Jia is attending University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she is enrolled in the Microbiology Doctoral Training Program. She would like to be a university professor and study pathogens to create vaccines or drugs to eradicate diseases.
