A major part of the life of any scientific institution is the sharing of information through formal and informal seminars. The many seminar series sponsored by the Microbiology Program and associated programs provide exposure to a wide range of research problems and approaches.
-
Journal Club (Monday, 12:20 pm) and Microbiology Seminars (Tuesday, 12:20 pm) provide opportunities for reviewing important recent papers. Each week a student, postdoc, or faculty member describes and critically analyzes a recent paper.
-
Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology (MCDB) Research Seminars (Friday, 12:20 pm) are presentations of work-in-progress by graduate students, postdocs, and faculty. Most graduate students give 2-3 of these presentations during their tenure in the program.
-
Microbiology, and MBG guest seminars (Tuesday and Thursday, 4:00 pm) are presentations by distinguished visiting speakers. Graduate students are invited to meet and talk with the speaker after each seminar.
-
Biochemistry Guest Seminars (Friday, 4:00 pm) are sponsored by the Chemistry and Biology departments.
- Special guest lectures are given through the Joan Wood Lecture Series to honor women in science, the James P. Holland Lecture Series which features scientists of color, the Sonneborn Lecture Series named in honor of Professor Tracy Sonneborn, and the Carlos O. Miller Lecture in Plant Molecular Biology named in honor of Professor Carlos Miller.
Current schedules for many of these seminars can be found on the Events & Opportunities page.
