Faculty

  • Keith Clay received a research grant from US Forest Service (along with Burnell Fischer, Clinical Professor in SPEA, his postdoc, Angie Shelton, and graduate students Luke Flory and Dan Johnson); Award amount was $25,065
  • Mark Estelle received a Silver Medal Award for Distinguished Research from the International Plant Growth Substance Association
  • Roger Hangarter received the Excellence in Teaching Award from the American Society of Plant Biologists, was named the Class of 1968 Chancellor’s Professor, and was also elected as a Fellow of the American Society of Plant Biologists
  • Richard Hardy received the Indiana University Trustees’ Teaching Award
  • Thom Kaufman received a “Docteur Honoris Causa de l’Université Paul Sabatier” in Toulouse, France.  He was also recently named a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science
  • David Kehoe received the Indiana University Trustees’ Teaching Award
  • Curt Lively was elected as an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand
  • Michael Lynch was elected President of the Society for Molecular Biology and Evolution, and also served as President of the American Genetic Association this year
  • Armin Moczek received the Indiana University Trustees’ Teaching Award
  • Al Ruesink L112 Biological Mechanisms class was selected as one of the top 20 “best practices” introductory Biology courses in the U.S. This is based on a national study of Biology courses conducted by the Center for Educational Policy Research
  • Michael Wade was elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science
  • Mimi Zolan was elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science

  • Andy Alverson was awarded an NIH NRSA postdoctoral research fellowship (Palmer lab)
  • Pam Bonner received a three-year NRSA Postdoctoral fellowship from NIH (Brun lab)
  • Brody DeYoung was awarded an NIH NRSA postdoctoral research fellowship (Innes lab)
  • Emilie Snell-Rood was awarded an NIH NRSA postdoctoral research fellowship (Moczek lab)
  • Susannah French won the Best Student Oral Presentation Award from the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology (Demas lab)
  • Jinwoo Kim received a prestigious fellowship - Korea Research Foundation Postdoctoral Scholarship for $24,381, which is granted to a small number of life scientists per year, and was specifically awarded so that Jinwoo could pursue studies in the Fuqua lab (Fuqua lab)

  • Jennifer Akst received the P. Sears Crowell, Jr. Scholarship (Wade lab)
  • Antiño Allen received a dissertation year fellowship and a McCormick Scholarship, both of which he had to decline in order to accept a Porter Fellowship from the American Physiological Society (Smith lab)
  • Skye Barendt received the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Predoctoral Fellowship for Minority Students from NIH for 3 years of funding (Winkler lab)
  • B. Heather Bleakley received an NSF International Research Fellowship from 2007-2009 for $140,000 and also received an IU Biology Outstanding Assistant Instructor Award (Moczek lab)
  • Ryan Bezy received the Walter A. Konetzka Fellowship (Kehoe lab)
  • Andrew Burnham received the Milton W. Taylor Fellowship in Virology (Hardy lab)
  • Idelle Cooper received the Louise Constable Hoover Fellowship (Lively lab)
  • Tami Cruickshank received a Graduate Travel Award to the Society for Molecular Biology and Evolution Meeting in Halifax, Nova Scotia and also received an Evolution, Development & Genomics IGERT Fellowship (Moczek lab)
  • Jessica Duchicela received a Fulbright Fellowship from Ecuador (Bever lab)
  • S. Luke Flory received the Forest Supervisor’s Award for Excellence in Development of Partnerships from the USDA Forest Service and Hoosier National Forest and also received the Floyd-Ogg Final Year Fellowship (Clay lab)
  • Timothy Greives received a Travel Award from the Society for Behavioral Neuroendocrinology (Demas lab)
  • Adrian Gutu received the Walter A. Konetzka Fellowship (Kehoe lab)
  • Ian Hall received a Fellowship from the IU Center for the Integrative Study of Animal Behavior (Hurley lab)
  • Andrew Houppert won first place McClung Award for a poster presentation at the IBASM meeting (Marketon lab)

  • Amanda Posto received an Evolution, Development & Genomics IGERT Fellowship, the George Hudock Biology Fellowship, and MORPH RCN travel grant (Moyle lab)
  • Melissa-Ann Scotti received a Travel Award from the Society for Behavioral Neuroendocrinology (Demas lab)
  • M. Helena Mendes Soares received a 4-year PhD Fellowship from the Fundacao para a Ciencia e Tecnologia (Foundation for Science & Technology) in Portugal (Velicer lab)
