    • Mary Ann Miller – Served as chairwoman of the American Cancer Society Monroe County Daffodil Days held on March 24 and 25. The IU campus community collected more than $7,000, which doubled last year's donations for daffodils.
    • Christie Wahlert & Jessica Hooten – served as Co-Captains of the IUB United Way Team 8. $644,317 was raised this year on campus.

  • Gerald Gastony – Botany 2008 Symposium to honor Gerald Gastony: >From Gels to Genomics: The Evolving Landscape of Pteridology. A Celebration of Gerald Gastony's Contributions to Fern Evolutionary Biology. The study of pteridophyte evolutionary biology has undergone remarkable developments during the past 40 years. Central to these developments has been the efforts of Jerry and his academic offspring to advance our understanding of these plants. The symposium will celebrate Jerry Gastony's productive career at the forefront of pteridology and highlight the major advances contributed under his auspices.
  • Tuli Mukhopadhyay organized the Indiana Microscopy Society Meeting, Friday, April 18. Clay Fuqua and Ke Hu gave talks. And several people participated in the meeting or helped in the preparations: Jim Powers, Debbie Martindale, Jeremy Bennett, Amber Young, Jason Cooper, Dan Kearns, Joe Pomerening, Aaron Fellows (and his crew), Rossanne Walden, Shang Cai, Barry Stein and Jonathan Rupp.

  • Luke Flory. Smithsonian Postdoctoral Fellowship. Luke was the number one ranked candidate in the entire applicant pool. Luke declined the Smithsonian fellowship and accepted a 3-year $240,000 Joint Fire Science Program Grant from the US Forest Service & Department of Interior.
