Diversity

The Department of Biology is strongly committed to fostering a diverse group of undergraduate students and we encourage members of underrepresented groups to apply. The Department provides several opportunities for minority undergraduate development. The Initiative for Maximizing Student Diversity (IMSD) Program is funded by the National Institutes of Health and involves IU undergraduate summer research within the Department as well as offering academic support throughout the academic year. Additional research, scholarship and mentoring support is provided to minority students through the IU Hudson and Holland Scholars Program and the Department’s Holland Summer Enrichment Program. Research opportunities in microbiology are provided by the Department through the American Society of Microbiology funded Minority Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program.

The IU Office of Academic Support and Diversity coordinates a wide array of programs and services that enhance excellence and equity for all members of the university. Indiana University also has an Affirmative Action Office on each campus and complies with all federal regulations against discrimination on the basis of sex, age, race, religion, ethnic origin, veteran status, or handicap. The University provides a wide range services for students with disabilities, maintains the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community, and complies with the letter and spirit of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
