COURSE: This course is a survey of biological rhythms
and behavior, with the most focus on circadian rhythms. We are delighted to have five outside
speakers who with established credentials in rhythms research (Menaker, Silver,
Weaver, White, and Hau). The first 9
weeks of the course will focus on general issues in understanding biological
rhythms and their neurophysiological/genetic bases. The second six weeks will focus specific
topics related to analysis, applications, and field endeavors.
STUDENTS: Students are
expected to attend class and do and discuss readings each week. In addition they will:
1. Give a presentation to the class and hand out a
summary of one or two readings.
2. Be part of a small group responsible for
interacting with and arranging the itinerary for a guest speaker.
3. Help organize and contribute to a presentation
topic during the second six weeks
4. Write a 15 page paper (20 pages for graduate
students) related to this presentation.
