egg1 (êg) n.
a. Female gamete; an ovum. Also called egg cell. b. The round or oval
female reproductive body of various animals, including birds, reptiles,
amphibians, fishes, and insects, consisting usually of an embryo surrounded
by nutrient material and a protective covering. c. The oval, thin-shelled
reproductive body of a bird, especially that of a hen, used as food.
Eggstravaganza (êg-strav-é-ganza).
1.(n) an annual biology departmental competition combining knowledge
of physics (effects of gravity), engineering (McGiver-style) and a love
for biology (i.e., save the egg).
2. (v) placing of one uncooked egg in an apparatus built from an
odd bunch of lab paraphernalia then dropping the egg-containing device
from a high place without breaking the egg (see photos below). Success
may result in winning the coveted trophy frying pan.
