One night in the late 1970šs (I think), a spaceship that was on its way to Earth from the planet Remulak crashed in New York's East River. There were two passengers on board, Beldar and Prymaat. Because their ship suffered severe damage, they were forced to seek refuge on this planet rather than to conquer it. Without green cards, Beldar and Prymaat were initially unable to support themselves but they eventually took on the identity of a family that had recently immigrated to the USA from France. It didn't take long before the INS (Immigration and Naturalization Service) found out about Beldar. In an attempt to fit in to their new surroundings in the USA, the Coneheads claimed that they were from France. Because the Coneheads had a number of unusual behavioral traits, most people seem to have accepted the story of their French origin without question. Anyway, with a baby on the way, Beldar got a job first as an appliance repair person, then as a cab driver. He eventually made enough money to buy a house in New Jersey. Soon after moving to Jersey, Prymaat gave birth to their daughter, Connie. After several years and several additional jobs, the Coneheads moved to the charming midwestern city of Columbus, OH.

After moving to Columbus, Beldar started working in the landscape business (one of those chemical lawn places). A short time later, the Arabidopsis Stock Center was established at The Ohio State University (home of those lovable Buckeye's). By that time Beldar and Prymaat had become well know around Columbus for their gardening skills. They were soon sought out by the leaders of the Arabidopsis Stock Center were they obtained jobs in the seed stock section of the Center. It wasn't long before the entire Conehead family were happily at work in the greenhouses were they maintained the extensive collection of mutant Arabidopsis. Most people who new them thought they were a bit peculiar but it helped that everyone thought they were from France.

In the picture below, you can see the Coneheads working happily together in the Arabidopsis greenhouse were they enjoyed consuming vast quantities of food and drink while they tended their plants. That's Prymaat passing out the vast quantities of food and drink, and Connie lending her father, Beldar, a helping hand with Arabidopsis pollination.
