The Conehead Family Business Branches Out

At the 1993 Arabidopsis Congress in Columbus, OH, the Conehead family opened a new business - T-shirt sales. The picture below, shows the entire Conehead family working together with some of their friends at the T-shirt booth to promote their special edition Arabiflora 93 T-shirts, whoppie cushions, Arabidopsis pins and other Arabidopsis accessories. It certainly appeared that the family was working well together and enjoying successful T-shirt sales.

We now believe that signs of friction between the Conehead parental units began to surface as the congress went on. For example, by the second day of the meeting, instead of working closely together, the Conehead's parental units were seen to be working the crowds separately. For example, when Beldar and Connie were consuming vast quantities of pastries and coffee with the other conference participants, Prymaat was seen hanging out near the registration desk engaged in conversations with various meeting participants. In the afternoons, when Prymaat was taking her turn consuming vast quantities at the coffee tables, Beldar and Connie were seen talking quietly together in the hallways out of earshot of Prymaat.

Later, at the meeting party in the Ohio Student Union, the Conehead parental units remained far apart, often staying on different floors. At the time, most people just thought the family was trying to take advantage of the opportunity to promote their Arabidopsis business. Indeed, Beldar spent a great deal of time at the party selling commemorative photographs such as the one shown below.
