This course
introduces students to the major concepts in the exciting field
of molecular biology. Students will first become familiar with the
structure of nucleic acids, the basic mechanics of DNA replication
and transcription and the genesis of proteins. Throughout the course
students will be exposed to a historical perspective surrounding
the evolution of molecular biology as a science and descriptions
of the original experiments that produced the field's most important
"facts". Finally, students will discover the various ways
that genes are regulated during the development of multi-cellular
organisms such as the fruit fly, nematode, zebrafish, mouse and
man. |
