IFLE Program Information Apply to IFLE!

What is IFLE?
IFLE is for biology, biochemistry, and behavioral neuroscience majors. It is a unique opportunity for high school graduates to soar into their science education at Indiana University: Six weeks of laboratory research during the summer between high school and college. Accelerated freshman introductory science course.

Step One: Summer Lab
Join a research lab at IU for 6 weeks before college starts. Choose a lab that matches your interests and gain valuable experience in laboratory research.

Each student is assigned a specific research project to complete with the guidance of professors and graduate students. Conclude your research with a paper and presentation on your summer project.

Learn about other IU research labs through faculty talks and tours.

Get to know other students and the IU Bloomington campus.

Step Two: Accelerated Freshman Course
Freshman introductory science course combines lecture with lots of lab experience. Accelerated learning in biology, biochemistry and behavioral neuroscience. Use state-of-the-art equipment. Develop scientific writing and experimental skills with a great teacher-student ratio.

What is the cost?
Receive a $1,000.00 scholarship. In addition, summer housing and meal expenses in an IU dorm are covered. Fall and spring costs will be at the regular IU rate.

What are the requirements?
High test scores and GPA. Advanced science courses. Interest in science research.

To be eligible for IFLE, students must participate in both the summer research and the academic freshman course.
